چکیده

Inter-organizational cooperation has many facets. One of them is information system (IS) cooperation which is a process of performing pre-defined cooperative activities using computer technology. IS cooperation can be modeled and implemented in the form of inter-organizational workflows involving (typically) pre-existing information systems of the participating organizations. When participating information systems belong to autonomous organizations, they can at any time decide to exercise their autonomy by, for example, refusing to execute their part of the cooperative work. Modeling parallelism, asynchrony and exception handling policies emerge as major challenges. Traditional data and control flow based modeling approaches fail to capture these aspects of IS cooperation. This paper reports on a case study of inter-organizational IS cooperation. A model of a real-world workflow spanning three autonomous organizations is presented together with the discussion of the encountered modeling difficulties and technical implications. Suggestions for improvement in the modeling approach are also included.

The view-based approach to dynamic inter-organizational workflow cooperation

This paper presents a novel approach to inter-organizational workflow cooperation. Our goal is to provide support for organizations which are involved in a shared but not pre-modeled cooperative workflow across organizational boundaries. Our approach allows for partial visibility of workflows and their resources, thus providing powerful ways for inter-organizational workflow configuration. Vary...

Model Driven Security for Inter-organizational Workflows in e-Government

Model Driven Architecture is an approach to increase the quality of complex software systems by creating high-level system models and automatically generating system architectures and components out of these models. We show how this paradigm can be applied to what we call Model Driven Security for inter-organizational workflows in e-government. Our focus is on the realization of security-critic...

Design and Verification of Loosely Coupled Inter-Organizational Workflows with Multi-Level Security

Inter-Organizational Workflows (IOWF) become important as they provide solution for data sharing, heterogeneity in resources and work coordination at global level. However, a secured computing infrastructure like Multilevel Security (MLS) is needed to support today’s vast

Mapping Petri Nets and Metagraphs: A Step Towards Inter-Organizational Workflows

In a world of increasing inter-connectedness between firms, workflow management systems that can interoperate with each are becoming of increasing importance. In light of the number of different modeling techniques used to model workflows, mapping between different workflow modeling techniques is an important problem. This paper proposes a mapping between Petri Nets and Metagraphs based on the ...

Deploying Access Control in Distributed Workflow

Workflows are operational business processes. Workfow Management Systems (WFMS) are concerned with the control and coordination of these workflows. In recent years, there has been a trend to integrate WFMS in distributed inter-organizational systems. In this case malfunctioning of one WFMS can affect more than one organization, making the correct functioning of a WFMS a critical issue. Thus, an...
